Add a store server in the console, approve it by its fingerprint, and move a store onto it.
0:00 Introduction
A store server is a small computer in your store. It keeps the tills working even when the internet is down. In this episode we add one, approve it, and move a store onto it.
0:12 Adding a store server
We are on the business page. Scroll down to the Store servers card. It is empty.
Give the new server a name that tells you where it sits. We will call it Back room. Then press Add.
The card now says waiting for the server. It shows a one-time code, and the command to run on the store server. The code works once, so keep it private.
0:36 Approving by fingerprint
Whoever sets up the server runs that command on it. The server then prints a fingerprint of its key. Here it is, along the bottom of the screen.
The console notices by itself that the server has called in. You do not need to refresh. It asks you to confirm the fingerprint.
Compare it with what the server printed. This is how you know the server is really yours. Type the fingerprint into the box and press Approve.
The server finishes enrolling and starts up. The card now shows Back room as active. Revoke is there if you ever need to cut a server off.
1:13 Moving a store
Now the store. The Stores and their servers card lists Main Street, served by the cloud. Its Move store to server button works now that there is a server to move it to.
Press it. A dialog asks which server should take Main Street. Pick Back room, then Move.
The store keeps trading while its data is copied to the server. We refresh the card every few seconds to watch it.
When the copy is done, the card says Back room is ready, and offers a Switch now button. Nothing changes for the tills until you press it.
Press Switch now. A dialog explains what happens: the tills move over at their next sync, and the cloud uploads what it still has, then stops serving the store. Press Switch now again to confirm.
The card says Back room is taking over. Wait a moment, and refresh. When it is done, Main Street says served by Back room.
The store now trades on the store server. If you ever want it back, Move store to the cloud is right there on the card.
