A product from an industry template: name, price, cost, SKU and opening stock.
0:00 Introduction
In this episode we add a product to the catalogue, from start to finish.
0:06 The product list
Open Products in the Catalog group. This is everything you sell. Each row shows the name, SKU, type, category, brand, price and how much stock you have.
The filters at the top narrow the list by category, brand, supplier or type, and the search box finds a product by name, SKU or barcode. To add one, click New product.
0:30 Choosing a template
First you pick an industry template. A template pre-fills the things that suit that kind of business, for example size and colour for clothing, serial numbers for bicycles, or expiry dates for food.
Everything can be changed afterwards, and you can skip the template and start blank. We are adding a simple item, so scroll back up and choose General retail.
0:53 Name and details
The Name is the only thing you must fill in. We will add an insulated water bottle.
A description is optional. Below it are the product type, how stock is tracked, and the unit. Quantity only and Each are right for a bottle.
1:08 Price, cost and SKU
Scroll down to Pricing. Retail price is what the customer pays. We will charge twenty four dollars.
Cost is what you pay for it. Here, nine dollars and fifty cents. Next to it, the app works out your margin for you.
The SKU is your own stock code for the product. Choose something short that you will recognise. Ours is B O T T L E dash one.
You can type a barcode if the product already has one. If you leave it empty, the system can make one for you, as long as that is switched on in settings.
1:44 Opening stock
Opening stock is how many you have today, outlet by outlet. We have twelve at Main Street and six at Harbor Mall.
The reorder point is the level at which you want a warning that stock is running low. We will use four.
1:59 Organising and selling options
Further down you can choose a brand and a tax class. The tax class decides which tax rate applies. Standard is fine for us.
The Selling card has switches. Discountable says whether discounts may apply, and Earns loyalty points does the same for points. Active has to stay on, or the register hides the product.
At the bottom you can upload pictures. The first one shows on the register. We will leave it for now.
2:28 Saving
Scroll up, and press Create product.
The app confirms, and shows the finished product, with the stock on hand across both stores.
To check, go back to the product list and search for bottle. There it is, ready to sell.
That is a product. In the next episode we add a product that comes in sizes, with a barcode for each one.
