Percentage and amount discounts, schedules, coupon codes and limits.
0:00 Introduction
In this episode we make a promotion: a discount that applies by itself, or when a customer gives a coupon code.
0:08 The promotions list
Open Promotions, in the Marketing group of the menu. The page says how many promotions are running right now.
Each card is one promotion. It shows its name, whether it is running, what it does, when it applies, and what it applies to. Here, twenty dollars off orders over two hundred, ten percent off with the code SAVE ten, twenty percent off tops, and buy two, get one free on inner tubes.
The Active switch on each card turns a promotion on or off without deleting it. Edit changes it. Show paused lists the ones that are switched off.
0:45 Making a promotion
Let's make one. Click New promotion.
Start with a name your staff will recognise. Weekend gear, fifteen percent off.
Now the type. There are five. Percent off takes a percentage off. Amount off each takes a fixed amount off every item. Fixed price sets the price. Buy X, get Y gives some items free. And Spend and save takes money off a whole order over a certain size. Click Amount off each to see how the form changes.
We want a percentage, so we stay on Percent off, and type fifteen. The line under the box spells out what you have made.
1:24 Coupon codes and limits
A coupon code is optional. Without one, the promotion applies by itself whenever its rules match. With one, the cashier has to enter the code at the register. We will use G E A R fifteen.
Usage limits stop a coupon being used forever. Total uses is the number of sales that may use it across all customers. We allow one hundred. Uses per customer is how many times one customer can use it. We choose one, and then the sale must have a customer attached.
1:55 Schedule and rules
Scroll down to Schedule and rules. Starts and Ends are dates. Leave them empty and the promotion runs all the time. Fill them in for a sale that runs only for a weekend. You choose them with a date picker.
Priority decides which promotion is applied first when several match. Stackable says whether this one can be combined with others. We leave both alone.
2:19 What it applies to
Applies to narrows it down. Leave everything on Any and the promotion applies to the whole store. Or pick categories, products, specific variants or brands. We will choose a category. Click Add under categories.
Tick Tops, under Apparel and accessories, and press Select.
Below that, Who and where can limit the promotion to some customer groups or some outlets. At the bottom, a minimum quantity or minimum order total can make the customer buy more to qualify.
2:50 Saving
Press Create.
The new promotion is now at the end of the list, running, with its code and the category it applies to. Cashiers do not have to do anything. At the register, the discount appears on its own, or when they enter the code. Season three shows it in use.
That finishes the catalogue season. You can add products, organise them, import them, label them, price them, and promote them. In season three, we go to the register and sell.
