One-time enrolment codes, enrolling a register, and watching devices from the back office.

In this episode we connect a register to your business. The same steps work for a scanner.

Open Devices from the menu. It lists every register and scanner that is connected to your business, and refreshes by itself every thirty seconds.
The tiles at the top show how many devices are online, how many have gone quiet, and whether any are holding sales that have not yet reached the server. The table underneath shows each device, which app it runs, where it is, who is signed in, and its status.

A new device cannot just connect. For safety, it needs a one-time code from you. Click Enrol a device.
Choose what you are enrolling. Register, scanner, or another back office. We want a register.
Then pick the outlet and the register it will be. This is Register 2 at Main Street.
Press Create code.
You get a QR code and the same code written out. It works once, and only for fifteen minutes. A device with a camera can scan the picture. Otherwise, type the code.

Now we move to the register. Open the register app, and on first use it asks for an enrolment code.
Type the code and tap Enrol this device.
That is done. The register now has its own secret key, and the code cannot be used again. The register asks for a staff PIN, the one we set up in the last episode. Casey, the cashier, signs in with one, one, one, one.
The register asks for an opening float, the cash in the drawer. That is part of the next season. For now, the register is connected.

Back in the back office, open Devices again.
The new register has appeared, with the number of devices online going up. Click on a device for its details. From there you can also forget it, or revoke it, if a tablet is lost or stolen. A revoked device can no longer reach your business.
A scanner is enrolled in exactly the same way. Make a code, choosing Scanner, and enter it in the scanner app.
That finishes the setup season. Your store has settings, a brand, outlets, taxes, staff and a connected register. In season two we fill it with products, starting with the first product.
