Choosing the connection the online store takes card payments through, and what the page tells you about it.
0:00 Introduction
Your online store takes card payments through one of your connections. In this episode we look at the page where you choose it, and at what the page tells you about your choice.
0:11 Your connections
The store can only use a connection you have already made. They are on the Payments page, under Admin.
Here are two, both to the simulated processor.
0:23 Checkout payments
Now the online store. In the menu, under Online store, choose Overview.
The page opens on the status of the store, and its address. Scroll down to Checkout payments.
Checkout payments says which connection the store takes card payments through. Here it is the simulated processor, the test connection we have been using.
Open the list. Every connection that can take online payments is there, with its provider, and whether it is a test or a live connection. We choose Training account.
Press Save changes, at the top of the page. From now on, the store's card payments go through that connection.
1:10 What the page tells you
Under the choice, the page names the provider, says whether the connection is in test mode or live, and whether it is active.
The red box is a warning. The store is live, but this connection takes test payments only. No real card is charged, and shoppers are told so. A live store should use a live connection.
Then it says what the connection does with the card. Here, the card is authorised when the shopper pays, and charged when you accept the order. An order you reject or cancel is released without a charge.
The last line says what the shopper's payment page loads from other sites. For this connection, nothing.
That is the online store's connection. You have connected a provider, paired a reader, switched processors, and refunded to a card.
