The register in standby when its processor stops answering, and a manager switching it to the backup reader.

0:00 Introduction

Sooner or later, a card processor has a bad day. This register has two card readers, on two different processors: its primary reader, and a backup. In this episode, a manager switches the register to the backup.

0:16 Standby

A customer is paying, and the register has gone into standby. The purple bar at the top says the card processor is unavailable. Below it, the register explains: the card service for the front reader is not responding, and the spare reader is ready.

While the processor is down, Credit and Debit cannot be used. Cash, a check, and the standalone card terminal are still there, so the customer does not have to leave.

0:42 Switching

To take cards again, switch the register to its backup reader. Press Switch processor.

The dialog shows the reader the register uses now, marked unavailable, and the readers it could switch to, with their connection and whether each is ready. It also asks why. Processor down is already chosen.

Press Switch.

Switching a processor needs a manager. The manager types their P I N on the pad, which approves this one switch.

The register says card payments now use the spare reader, and Credit and Debit is back.

1:16 Taking the card

Choose Credit and Debit, and press Charge on terminal.

The spare reader takes the payment.

The sale is complete, and the receipt shows the card payment, with the last four digits of the card.

1:28 Switching back

Later, the first processor answers again. For the next sale, press Pay as usual.

To switch back, open the payment menu, the three dots at the top, and choose Switch card processor.

The dialog shows the spare reader as the one in use now, and the front reader as ready again. It asks why. We choose Other, and write that the first processor is back. Press Switch, and a manager approves with their P I N.

The register is back on its first reader.

That is how a register keeps taking cards when a processor is down. In the next episode, we refund a card payment.
