The Payments page, what a provider asks for, and connecting one: its credentials, its webhook, the test, and the outlets it is used at.
0:00 Introduction
Your business takes card payments through a payment provider, with an account of your own. In this episode we look at the Payments page, see what a provider asks for, and connect one.
0:11 The Payments page
In the menu, under Admin, choose Payments.
This page shows the payment providers your business uses. Nothing is connected yet. A connection is your own account at a provider, and every card payment goes through one.
Further down are the card readers, which come in the next episode, and then every provider you can connect.
Each provider shows the countries it works in, and whether it takes payments in the store, online, or both. Beta means the connection is newer. The picker at the top narrows the list to your country.
0:47 Connecting with keys
To connect one, press its button. We press Connect Adyen.
A connection has a name, which is up to you, and an environment, test or live. A test connection moves no money. A live one takes real payments, so it asks for live keys. We keep Test, and press Continue.
Now the page lists the steps to follow at Adyen, and a field for each key it needs. The keys are checked with Adyen when you save them, kept in the server's key store, and never shown again.
We have no Adyen account to use today, so we cancel. The connection stays on the page, waiting for its keys.
The Webhook button shows the address to give Adyen, so that it can report each card payment, and the steps to follow there. Press it.
It also says where the webhook stands. Not set up, until Adyen sends its first message. Payments are settled even then: the register asks Adyen for the result. Close it.
We do not need this connection, so we disconnect it. The page asks first, and says that the stored credentials are erased from the server.
1:54 A connection with nothing to type
The simulated processor is a test processor that approves a card without a card. It needs no keys, so it is the easiest way to learn. We press Connect Simulated processor.
We call it Training account, and press Continue.
There is nothing to type, so we press Check and save.
The connection is active. Press Test connection, to ask the provider whether it accepts the credentials. The answer appears at the bottom of the screen, and on the card, next to Last test.
Outlets limits a connection to some of your stores. Left alone, it is used at every outlet. We choose Main Street, and press Select.
The card now says Used at Main Street. Switch off keeps the keys but stops using the connection, and Disconnect erases them.
A connection is only half of it. In the next episode, we pair a card reader, and put it on a register.
