A refund that goes back to the card by itself, and one that needs the customer's card presented on the card terminal.

0:00 Introduction

When a customer returns something they paid for by card, the money should go back to the card. In this episode we refund two card payments. The first goes back to the card by itself, and the second needs the customer's card on the card terminal.

0:15 A refund to the card

A customer brings back a hoodie they paid for by card. Press Return, and a manager approves with their P I N.

Choose the customer's receipt, the top one in the list, and the item coming back.

Give a reason, and add the return to the sale.

The cart shows the hoodie as a minus amount, and the big button now says Refund. Press it.

Choose how to refund the customer. Press Credit and Debit.

A switch asks whether the customer presents their card on the terminal. Left off, the refund goes back to the card by itself, and the page says so: refunded through the card processor to the card used on the original sale. Press the button.

The refund is complete, and the receipt shows it. The money goes back to the card the customer paid with. Press New sale.

1:02 A card that must be present

Now another customer returns two things they paid for by card, on one receipt: a bike tune-up and a hoodie. Press Return, and again a manager approves.

Choose the receipt, and press Return all. Give a reason, and add the return to the sale.

Press Refund, and choose Credit and Debit.

This time there is no switch. The page says that this payment can only be refunded with the customer's card on the card terminal, and that the terminal asks for it once the refund is saved.

Press the button. The card terminal asks for the customer's card: the screen says Present the card for the refund. The customer presents it, and the refund is made.

The screen says what was refunded to the card, and the last digits of the card it went to. Press Done.

In the next episode, we choose the connection your online store takes card payments through.
