Scan any code, a barcode, a SKU, a serial number or a scale label, and see the price and the stock, here and at every store.
0:00 Introduction
In this episode we use the scanner to check prices and stock. You can scan a barcode, type a product code, scan a serial number, or scan a label from the deli scale.
0:12 Opening Price and stock
From the home screen, tap Price and stock.
The scan box at the top is ready for you. If your scanner is a handheld, just pull the trigger. If you are on a phone, the camera button on the right scans with the camera.
0:26 Scanning a barcode
Let us scan the barcode on a hoodie.
The green bar names the item. Below it you see the product, the size, and which kind of barcode you scanned. Then the price, in large type, and how many are on hand here.
Underneath, the stock at your store: how many are available, how many are already promised to customers, and how many are on order from suppliers. It also shows the bin and the reorder level, if the product has them.
Then the stock at every outlet, and the other sizes of the same product, each with its price and its count.
A product can have more than one barcode. Here is the same hoodie scanned from its second barcode, a thirteen digit E A N code. You land on the same item.
1:13 Codes you type
You do not need a barcode. You can type the product code, the S K U, and press Enter. The result says it matched by S K U.
1:22 Scale labels
Items sold by weight carry a label from the scale. Scan it, and the scanner reads the weight inside the code.
This is a bag of bananas. The label says one and a quarter pounds. The scanner shows the price per pound and the price of this bag, eighty six cents, and how much we have in stock.
1:41 Serial numbers
Serial numbers work too. This is the I M E I of a phone.
The scanner shows that exact unit: it is in stock, where it is, when it was received, and its details. Underneath is the usual price and stock for that model.
1:58 When a code does not match
Some scans do not work. Barcodes have a check digit, and a bad scan often gets it wrong. Here is a misread.
The scanner does not guess. It says the check digit is wrong, so rescan before you do anything else.
And here is a valid code that nobody knows.
It tells you that no product, serial number, gift card or customer matches. In a later episode we will see how to link a new barcode to a product.
2:29 Searching by name
If you have no code at all, tap the search button and type a name.
Each result shows the code, the price and how many are on hand. Tap one to open it.
That is price and stock. In the next episode, we check a delivery in against its purchase order.
