Count a shelf with the scanner: start a count, scan or enter quantities, undo mistakes, and complete the count to correct the stock.
0:00 Introduction
Stock on the computer and stock on the shelf drift apart. A count puts that right. In this episode we count a shelf with the scanner, from the first scan to the finished count.
0:11 Starting a count
From the home screen, tap Stock count.
This screen lists the counts for your store. Open counts are ones you can still scan into. Finished counts are listed under Recent. Tap New count.
A full count covers every product in the store. A cycle count covers one category, which is quicker. We will count one shelf, so we pick By category. The scanner saves what the system expects right now, so later sales do not confuse the count.
We choose Pet supplies, Food.
Give the count a name, so that you can find it again. Then tap Start counting.
0:50 Counting the shelf
This is the count. At the top it says how many lines have been counted. This category has three lines, one for each size of dog food. Next to it is the variance: the difference between what you counted and what the system expects.
Under the scan box are three ways to count. Each scan adds one every time you scan. Enter qty asks how many. Set total lets you type the total you found on the shelf.
We start with each scan. There are 2 bags of the thirty pound size on the shelf, so we scan the barcode once for each bag.
Each scan is listed, with the new total for that item.
Oops, the same bag was scanned one time too many.
That is what Undo is for. Tap Undo beside the extra scan, and it is removed.
For the fifteen pound bags, there are too many to scan one by one. Switch to Enter qty and scan one bag.
The scanner asks how many. We counted 8. The buttons below offer common quantities, or you can type any number. Tap Add.
For the small bags we use Set total. You scan one, and then type the total on the shelf.
We counted 12. Tap Set count.
2:07 Reviewing the count
All three lines are counted, and the variance at the top says minus two. Two bags are missing compared with the system.
Open the Lines tab to see each item, with the count next to what was expected.
The lines with a difference are shown first. The thirty pound bags matched, so they are not listed.
2:27 Completing the count
When you are happy, tap Complete count.
The scanner shows the variance in units and in money, and warns you that on-hand quantities will be set to the counted values. If you are not sure, tap Keep counting. Otherwise, tap Complete.
The count is finished, and the stock is corrected. It moves into the Recent list.
In the next episode, we send stock to another store, and receive it there.
