An event with its ticket types, a performance with its date and time, a price for each zone and ticket type, and putting it on sale.
0:00 Introduction
An event is what you sell: a concert, a talk, a class. In this episode we create an event, add its ticket types, add a performance with its date and prices, and put it on sale.
0:13 The event
In the menu, under Events, choose Events.
The list shows every event with its venue and its status. There are none yet, so we start with a new one.
Press New event.
Give the event a name, and a description if you like. Ours is a Summer Jazz Night.
The venue is the place it is held at, and the store is the one that sells the tickets. We choose Main Street. The booking fee is charged once for every ticket. We set two dollars.
The refund cutoff is how many hours before a performance a ticket can still be returned without a manager. The most tickets per order limits one purchase. Re-entry says whether a ticket that has been scanned can be used again. We keep the usual choices.
Press Create event.
0:58 Ticket types
An event needs ticket types, such as Adult and Child. Press Add ticket type, give it a short code and a name, and add it.
Add a Child type in the same way. A paid type has a price for each zone. A complimentary type is for free tickets, which are covered in a later episode.
Both types are listed with their code, their name and their kind.
Press Publish. This makes the event's product in your catalogue, with one variant for each paid ticket type, so the register and the online store can sell it.
1:30 A performance
A performance is one showing of the event, on a seat map. Scroll down to Performances, and press Add performance.
The seat map is chosen here. Only published seat maps of the venue are offered. Below it, all the times are read at the venue's own clock, in the time zone shown above.
Press Starts to choose the date, and then the time. We pick a date a week from now, at eight o'clock in the evening.
The end and the time the doors open follow from the start, and you can change them. Sales open and Sales close are optional: sales open when you publish, and close when the performance starts.
Press Create performance.
2:09 Prices
The price grid has a row for each zone of the seat map, and a column for each paid ticket type. Type the price of every ticket. A cell left empty means that type is not sold in that zone.
Press Save prices.
Now scroll up and press Publish. The performance goes on sale at once, and a place is made for every seat on the map.
At the bottom, the seats and blocks section shows every seat live: how many are free, held by a sale in progress, sold, or blocked. We come back to it when we sell tickets.
Go back to the event with the arrow at the top. The performance is listed with its date, its status, whether it is on sale, how many tickets are sold, and how many places are left.
The event is on sale. In the next episode, we sell tickets for it at the register.
