0:00 Introduction

To sell reserved seats, the system needs to know your venue. In this episode we add a venue, draw its seat map over a picture of the room, and publish it.

0:10 Venues

In the menu, under Events, choose Venues and seat maps.

A venue is a place where you hold events: a theatre, a hall, a classroom. Our Lighthouse Playhouse is already here, with its address and its time zone.

To add another, press New venue.

Give the venue a name and, if you like, an address. We call ours Riverside Hall.

Choose the store the venue belongs to: Main Street. The time zone is suggested from the store, and every performance time is read at the venue's own clock. Press Create venue.

0:44 A seat map

The venue page shows its details and its seat maps. A seat map is a picture of the room with every seat placed over it. Press New seat map, and give it a name.

Press Create, and the seat map editor opens, filling the window.

First, the picture. Press Upload picture and choose a picture of your room, a floor plan or a photograph. It is made smaller on your own computer, and the details a camera adds are removed, before it is uploaded.

Next, the zones. A zone is a group of seats that cost the same, such as the stalls, or the balcony. Press Add a zone, give it a short code and a name, and press Add zone.

Add a second zone in the same way, for the balcony.

1:31 Rows of seats

To place seats, choose the row tool, the third button in the toolbar. On the right, say which section and row the new seats are, and how many seats the row has. We choose row A of the stalls, with ten seats.

Then drag along the picture, from where the first seat goes to where the last one goes. The seats are spread evenly along the line, and numbered one to ten.

The next row is ready with the next letter. Drag a second row below the first.

The balcony is a different zone. Choose Balcony here, name its section and row, and drag one row over the balcony.

2:09 A standing area

A standing area has no numbered seats, only a number of places. Add another zone, and choose Standing area. We allow forty places.

Now click the corners of the area on the picture, and press Enter to finish. It is drawn in the zone's colour, with its name and how many places it has.

2:29 Saving and publishing

Click a seat to pick it. The panel shows what you can change: its number, its zone, its angle, and whether it is a wheelchair space or a companion seat.

Press Save. The editor checks the map first, and lists anything the server would refuse, such as two seats with the same label.

When the map is right, press Publish. Publishing freezes its structure: seats and zones can no longer be added or removed, though names, colours and positions can still change.

The seat map is published, and performances can use it. Go back to the venue with the arrow: the seat map is listed with its seats and zones.

In the next episode, we create an event at this venue, give it a performance, set the prices, and put it on sale.
