Charging a card on the terminal, and paying one sale with two tenders.
0:00 Introduction
Not everyone pays in cash. In this episode we charge a card on the card terminal, and then split one sale between a card and cash.
0:10 Paying by card
We start with a simple sale. One large hoodie.
Tap Pay, as usual. On the payment screen you choose how the customer pays. This time, tap Credit or Debit.
The amount to charge is filled in for you. It is the whole amount due. Check it, then tap Charge on terminal.
The register now talks to the card terminal. It says to present the card on the terminal. The customer taps, inserts or swipes their card, and enters a PIN if the terminal asks.
You never type card numbers on the register. When the terminal approves the card, the sale completes by itself, just like cash.
The receipt shows how the customer paid. It lists the card brand and only the last four digits of the card number. There is no change to give back on a card.
Tap New sale for the next customer.
1:06 Splitting a bill
Now a bigger sale. A medium hoodie and two large ones.
Sometimes a customer wants to pay part by card and the rest in cash. That is called a split tender. The register handles it on the same payment screen. Tap Pay.
The customer wants thirty dollars on the card. Tap Credit or Debit, and change the amount from the full total to thirty dollars.
Tap Charge on terminal. The customer pays on the terminal as before.
The card part is done, but the sale is not complete. Look at the left. It shows what has been paid, and what is remaining. The rest of the bill is still to pay.
Now choose Cash for the rest. The customer hands over sixty dollars, so we tap that amount.
The sale is complete. The change is worked out on the cash part only, because the card part was exact.
The receipt lists both payments, the card and the cash, so the customer and your end of day count both match.
Tap New sale to finish.
In the next episode we look at discounts, and how a manager approves what a cashier cannot do alone.
