Selling and loading a gift card, checking its balance and paying with it.
0:00 Introduction
Gift cards are a favourite present. In this episode we check the balance of a card, sell a new one, and then pay for a sale with it.
0:09 Checking a balance
A customer hands you a gift card and asks how much is left on it. Open the main menu, the three dots at the top right, and choose Gift card balance.
Scan the card, or type the number, and tap the search button.
The balance appears in large numbers. Underneath are the card's original value, and a list of everything that has happened on the card, with the amounts. Tap Close when you are done.
0:35 Selling a gift card
To sell a new card, scan its barcode, or the store's Gift Card item. The register opens the Sell gift card window.
Choose how much to load on the card. There are quick buttons for the usual amounts, or you can type any amount you like. We tap fifty dollars.
Then give the card a number. Scan the number on the physical card, or type it. If you leave it blank, the register makes up a number for you, and the Generate button does the same. We type the number from the card.
Tap Add to sale. The gift card is now a line in the cart, for fifty dollars. Notice that there is no sales tax on it. Tax is charged later, when the card is spent.
Take payment in the usual way. The customer pays fifty dollars in cash.
The card is now active with fifty dollars on it, and the customer can use it straight away. Tap New sale.
1:31 Paying with a gift card
Now the customer spends the card. A medium hoodie.
Tap Pay, and choose Gift Card.
Scan the card, or type its number. Then tap Check balance, so you and the customer can see what is on it before it is used.
The card has fifty dollars. Tap Apply Gift Card. The register takes only what the sale needs, and leaves the rest on the card.
The receipt shows the gift card as the payment, with only the last four digits of the number. The remaining balance stays on the card for next time.
In the next episode, we check in a repair as a work order.
