Taking a deposit, paying a layaway down and handing the goods over.
0:00 Introduction
A layaway lets a customer set something aside, pay for it in instalments, and take it home once it is paid off. In this episode we start one with a deposit, make a payment, and hand the goods over.
0:13 Starting a layaway
Lena would like a large hoodie, but she wants to pay for it over a few weeks. We scan it first, as for any sale.
Instead of Pay, tap Layaway, beside the Park button.
A layaway always belongs to a customer, so the register asks who it is for. We pick Lena.
Here is the layaway total, and the minimum deposit the store asks for. The deposit has to cover at least that. The customer pays ten dollars in cash.
Tap Create layaway.
The layaway is saved. The receipt says layaway at the top, and shows the balance still due. Give Lena a copy so she knows what she owes. The hoodie is now set aside for her.
Tap New sale.
1:00 Making a payment
A week later, Lena returns with another payment. Tap Retrieve, open the Layaways tab, and tap her layaway.
The layaway payment screen shows the balance due, and how much she has already paid. Below are the usual payment methods. Tap Other amount to type in what she is paying today.
She pays seven dollars. Type it on the keypad, tap Tender, then Apply payment.
The payment is recorded, and the layaway stays open. The balance is lower now.
1:34 Picking it up
Finally Lena comes to collect. Open the layaway again from Retrieve.
The balance due is what is left. Tap the exact amount to pay it all, then tap the button to pay off the layaway.
The sale is complete. The receipt shows the total, and all three payments. The hoodie leaves the stock now, and Lena takes it home.
If a customer changes their mind, a manager can cancel a layaway from Recent sales in the menu, and the deposit is handed back.
In the next episode, we sell a gift card, check its balance and pay with it.
