What changes offline, which payments still work, and how sales sync afterwards.

0:00 Introduction

Sooner or later, the internet goes down. The good news is that the register keeps selling. In this episode we cut the connection, make a sale, and watch it sync when the connection comes back.

0:13 Online

Normally the register is connected to your store server. Look at the small green cloud next to the total. It tells you everything is connected.

0:22 The connection drops

Now the connection drops. We cut the network on this computer.

A banner appears across the top. Offline: sales are saved on this register and will sync automatically. It also shows how many sales are waiting, and for how long you have been offline. There is a limit to how long a register can sell offline, and the banner warns you as you get close to it.

The sale we started is still in the cart. Selling carries on as usual. Tap Pay.

Here is what is different. Some payment methods need the internet, and they are greyed out. Gift cards, store credit, house accounts and the card reader all need a connection. The screen says what still works. Cash, a check, or the standalone card terminal, where you type in the approval code yourself.

We take cash.

The sale is complete. It is saved on this register, with its own receipt number, and the customer gets a receipt as always.

Tap New sale. A few things need the internet to check with the server, such as gift card balances, cash management and returns against a receipt. The register tells you when you try. Let's try the gift card balance.

1:43 The sync queue

Open the main menu again, and look at the sync queue. It says how many sales are waiting. Tap it.

The sync queue lists the sales waiting to go to the server. You never need to do anything here, the register tries again by itself. Once the connection is back, Sync now tries again straight away.

2:03 Back online

Now the connection comes back.

The register notices, and sends the waiting sale to the server on its own. The banner goes away, and the sync queue now says online, with no unsynced sales. All offline sales have synced.

The sale made offline is now on the server, with the same receipt number it had on the register. If a manager needs to look at an offline sale, the register flags it for review, and tells you here.

That is the end of this season. You can now open the register, sell, take payments, handle returns, and close the day. Well done.
