Line and sale discounts, coupons, and a manager's PIN for what a cashier cannot do alone.
0:00 Introduction
Customers love a bargain, and the register gives you several ways to give one. In this episode we look at automatic promotions, coupons, and discounts you type in yourself, which need a manager's approval.
0:13 Automatic promotions
Some discounts need no effort from you. The store has a promotion that gives you one free inner tube when you buy two. Let's tap the inner tube tile three times.
The register worked out the promotion by itself. The cart shows the discount, and the total savings, so you can tell the customer exactly how much they saved.
That is enough of that. Let's clear the sale from the three dots menu.
0:40 Coupons
Now a coupon. Our customer has a coupon code that gives ten percent off when you spend fifty dollars or more. We scan a medium and a large hoodie, which come to fifty one dollars and fifty cents before tax.
Open the three dots menu beside the Pay button, and choose Coupon code.
Type the code exactly as printed, S A V E ten, and tap Apply. Capital letters or small ones, either works.
The discount is taken off, and the savings appear in the cart. A coupon never needs a manager, because the store set it up in advance.
Let's clear this sale and look at the discounts you decide yourself.
1:22 A discount on one item
A customer finds a scuff on a large hoodie and asks for a discount. Scan it, then tap the line in the cart to edit it.
Here you can change the quantity, the price, add a note, and give a line discount, as a percentage or an amount. Notice the words under the box. Needs manager approval. A cashier cannot give a discount alone.
Type twenty for twenty percent and tap Save. The register asks for a manager.
The manager walks over and types their own PIN. The PIN is checked straight away, and it is recorded with the sale, so the receipt can always be traced back to who approved it.
The line now shows the discount, and the total has dropped. Take payment as usual.
The sale is done. Tap New sale.
2:12 A discount on the whole sale
You can also discount a whole sale. Two hoodies this time.
Open the three dots menu and choose Discount sale. It says Needs approval right under the name.
Again the manager types their PIN.
Then you choose the discount. There are quick buttons for common percentages. Or switch to Amount, to take off a fixed number of dollars. We tap ten percent.
Every line is reduced and the cart shows the total savings. The manager only has to approve once for this sale.
Pay in cash, and the receipt shows the discount.
Tap New sale to finish.
In the next episode, we attach a customer to a sale, and look at loyalty points and store credit.
